Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do
I am Catherine Heraghty, the director of a boutique interior styling company based in Sydney, working closely with individuals and businesses to create simple, timeless and unique design solutions that are both beautiful and functional.
What inspired you to start doing architecture/interior design?
Originally I am from the corporate world of marketing and finance. One day I discovered that you could actually go and study Interior design and build a career based around something that for me, just felt like a fun hobby. I couldn’t believe it! This began the path of retraining for me and I have been working in my own design / styling businesses ever since.
What has been a highlight of your career so far?
For me, highlights of my career are often the small things, not the big things. Interiors are what I love to do, and there is nothing I adore more than building a relationship with each and every client of ours and seeing their world transform through the interiors we create for them. For me, client satisfaction is my career highlight – all day every day.
How would you describe your style?
The Stables has a Contemporary Australian aesthetic.
Share with us 1 of your career goals?
I believe that The Stables can continue to grow, in the near future we intend on also offering Interior Architecture within the team.
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
I would have to say Scandinavia, purely because of their amazing architecture and interiors!
What is your all time favourite cafe/restaurant?
Rustic Italian is one of my absolute favourites, I can’t go past Pendolino’s at The Strand Arcade for a decadent Italian feast!
What is 1 thing on your bucket list?
For my work to create opportunities to travel internationally, when international travel is available again some day!
Who are some people in your industry that you admire?
There are too many to count. I adore the work of designers such as Hecker Guthrie, Mim Design, Carole Whiting and Heartly Design Studio and when it comes to beautifully crafted furniture pieces I cannot go past Australian designed and made such as Jardan and Mr. & Mrs. White.
From the latest Object X collection, if you had to style 1 piece from the collection, which one would it be? And talk us through how you would style it and the perfect setting.
From the Object X collection I would love to pop Object 7 into any of our interior spaces, the soft neutral colour and texture would perfectly accent an occasional chair in a living space or master bedroom. Add a Marmoset Found vase with some beautiful florals and a small aesthetically pleasing book to create some softness with the styling and the look would be complete.
